Frustrating

I haven't spoken to Vanessa since we left Japan. It's frustrating, but I understand. She's away at school, and doesn't have access to a phone or the internet. Still, it's hard to not talk to the one you Love. We email back and forth when she can get to a computer for a little bit, but it's not like the nightly phone calls/chats we had a month ago.
Talking to her actually reduced my stress, and made me take breaks when I was too involved in a night-long process.

I Miss you.

CLARIFICATION OF PREVIOUS POST

Ok, I just read my last post again, and I have to clear something up. I DON'T hate working at AFN Korea. I don't hate Korea, or any of my coworkers.
What I hate is the long hours spent doing the news job. I don't hate doing news, but I was at a breaking point before I left, and I feel that I will reach it again. That thought depresses me. I don't mind doing my job, and I like being the "go-to" guy. It's just (and we all know this) the better you are at something, the more work they'll give you. In civilian business, this makes you more valuable, and your company will pay you more, or offer you incentives to stay with that company, rather than shuffling off to a competitor. In the military, you're stuck...you can leave your job, but you have to stay in the military. If you try to get out of the military, you get treated like a second-class citizen, and it follows you for the rest of your life.

I just needed to clear the air.
I work with a great group of people. I have friends here, that I'd add to my dream team.
(I hat naming names, so I'll put out initials: D, B, R, G)
Someday, I'll need to write down this list of people, and get their contact information, so if I ever do become President, I'll have my cabinet all ready.

Back in Korea

Well everyone, I'm back in Korea.
Sadly.
I'm not going to write much about my time in Japan, as Vanessa has done that on her blog. Check my link to her blog to see what's up. I will say that it was a MUCH needed trip. I got to get away from the most stressful job I've ever had, and kick back and relax with the Love of my life. It was the best three weeks I've had since moving away from Japan (after the first three days, Vanessa didn't have to go to work, so it was the two of us together for most of the time).
The only problem with the trip, was that we knew once it was over, we'd be apart for a good stretch of time. If we thought four months was hard, we will hate the next eight! Still, we have ways of talking to/seeing each other, and that will help a lot. We also got to talk about our relationship, and the wedding. We even got a few more things in for the ceremony (the ring bearer will carry a little treasure chest with the rings in it...how cute is that?).

Back to work.
Yesterday I returned to Hell, er, AFN Korea. Before I left, my boss told me I could expect to come back and begin working in the radio section. I breathed a sigh of relief, and left, not once thinking about AFN Korea while on vacation. When I came back, I was walking through the commissary and ran into a coworker. He told me that I might not go to radio, but that I would probably go to production - making commercials. I didn't mind, because I'm good at that, and it lets me be creative...without the pressure of news. It also means I don't have to work ungodly hours or weekends unless I want to, and that lets me off work in time to call Vanessa in D.C.
WELL!!!!!!!!!!! I came in to work yesterday, ready to slowly get back into the swing of things, and start my new position. The second I entered the office, THE SECOND, my boss came up to me and told me I'd be staying in the news section! Any relief, and stress reduction my trip to Japan provided me washed away. I'll now be working in News for at least another three months, and probably my entire stay on the peninsula. I'm back to being a shooter /producer(see:workhorse), and on top of that, I'm the assignment editor for our news section.
So, my faithful family and friends, you can look forward to man rants about how much I hate working here, and how much I want to leave this place, and never return. Goosfrabah.

I've decided to quit smoking. Yes, quit smoking. It's not because of the normal reasons people quit:
- It's unhealthy
- It hurts my lungs when I run
- It makes my clothes smell bad to those around me
- It takes away my sense of smell and taste
Nope, I've decided to quit, because I can't afford the habit.
A recent check of my finances showed me I was much more in debt that I had previously thought. So I'll be living lean for the next year, trying to get my happy ass out of debt. Cutting out the $4.00 almost daily for a pack of smokes will help me save $20 a week/$120 a month/$360 through December, and a total of $720 by the time July rolls around. Quitting smoking will pay for part of the reception, so I'm looking at it as a good thing.
Let me take this time now, to appologize (in advance) to anyone who talks to me on a regular basis. I'm going to get grouchy. I won't be able to help it. It's not you, it's the withdraw I'm going through. I already find myself thinking about a cigarette when my old triggers pop up (work being the biggest trigger), but I've done well for a whole day.
I know I can't do this cold turkey - I've tried before and failed. So, this time I've decided to do kind of what my Mom does. I might bum once in a while, when the NEED strikes...not the want, but the need.
