My stuff is here

I received my TMO shipment today. All that means is my material possessions (well, most of them, I have a lot still in Japan, and even more back at Mom and Dad's house in Indiana) now rest in my two 9x4 rooms in base housing. It's funny, you never know what you have, until you unpack it. I found things I forgot I had, and thought I had things I didn't ship. That's okay, though, Vanessa will send me some stuff, and keep some things there for when I visit her (soon we both hope!) in Japan.
Originally, my shipment was due to arrive at 1pm, but I got a call at work this morning from the movers, telling me they had to push up my appointment to 10:30. The boss my boss works for actually gave me the day off to get everything unpacked, and even told me she'd push back a deadline I had because of it. She reminds me (emotionally) of another boss lady I had in Japan...which tells me to stay on her good side.

I didn't get the chance today due to moving, but sometime this week, I will be getting internet and phone service connected to my room. The means I'll be able to check email and receive phone calls on a more regular basis. My work day typically has run from 6:30 - 5:30 on PT days (M/W/F) and 7:30 - 5:30 (T/R). Maybe I can schedule the cable/phone people to connect me this weekend, so I don't lose another day of work. I know the bosses are tired of me saying I have this or that appointment. On the plus side, if I get the cable internet, it's unlimited use, so I can leave my AOL instant messenger open all day, and you can leave me messages there. If not, there's still this blog. I do read every message I get, and typically respond with a comment if requested. So, if you leave me a comment with a question or request for a reply, the next time you see an update, check the comments section from the blog you commented on.

I'm not saying I'm good, but...

Today at work, I had to shoot what has previously been called a "comander's corner" radio show. What happens is the base commander comes to the AFN radio studio, and talks about whatever they want. Well, in Korea, AFN brings up the highest-ranking enlisted individual (Command Sergeant Major for USFK) and lets him do the talking. It's nothing I haven't done before, but apparently, no one changes angles or uses lighting, because when I turned in my footage, the higher ups were floored. I dunno, I don't think it's because I'm good at my job this time. I think there's a serious lack of training here.
On a similar note, I was doing some final inprocessing today, and when I returned to AFN, I saw a bunch of my coworkers brainstorming. I joined in for lack of something better to do, and learned they're trying to come up with a campaign to market AFN to the base. At the time I joined the conversation, the person in charge had written down:

"3 radio spots"
"1 TV spot"
and three catch phrases for them to use.

THANK GOODNESS I WENT TO THE BROADCAST MANAGER'S COURSE!
I explained to the leader what a real ad campaign consists of, and the whole group was floored. They never thought that a campaign was more than making a couple of commercials with the same idea. I told them about what my BMC instructors showed me a campaign could be, and now I'm the office "Creativity Consultant." Another job title, but the most fun one I have. I get to hear spot pitches, and tell our producers if I like it, or if I think it needs work. That's it! So on top of doing my regular producer job, and supervising my Airmen, and assigning spots and news shoots, NOW I get to have the fun job of hearing people be creative. No sarcasm here, I really like the idea of the Army letting its Soldiers be creative (to a point) and I'm the authority for right now. That's cool with me.

So, next week my shipment arrives, and then I'll be done inprocessing and work will be "game on." I hope it's as fun as it sounds like it could be!
